Country Slime Review

Hey all,

I reviewed Country Slime by developer AZS a while back, and least to say, I was quite thrilled with the game. Country Slime was one of the first indie-games we followed when we set up our social media way back when, and watching it come a long way has been lovely. At this point in time, the game has not amassed a large following, which I believe is totally undeserved as so much love has been put into the game, I can tell.

Surviving as a slime

The game itself has some simple yet enjoyable mechanics, survival, combat, skills, mining, smithing, crafting, cooking, and epic dodging. All of which play a pivotal role in helping your slime survive. It's by no means an easy game, the dietary requirements of a slime are a bit ruthless and bread isn't going to cut it for long. I'm talking meat, eggs, a full breakfast really. Leave the wheat for your cow and go slay some birds.

I would recommend farming and hunting food first, before trying to do long dungeon treks, as I learned the hard way. Coal is an important resource too, and having enough of that to cook your food must also be balanced along side your growing larder. After you've got your snacks and coal, then you go loot hunting, learn the art of parry slash and block, kill some biggy slimes. If you're struggling with the melee combat, the boomerang or fireball attack gives your that necessary distance to avoid getting up close. To unlock the fireball and other skills, head high up into the forest mountains to spend your diamonds. You'll see what I mean.

I have not played enough yet to fully know all about the smithing side of Country Slime, but I can imagine a packa-punched sword would certainly make things quicker. Not to mention the anvil is on top of a mountain, which was badass. Make sure you don't spend all your coal though, too quickly, before you've gotten enough food cooked! Otherwise you'll be mining for your life just to cook.

Atmosphere and final thoughts

Country Slime benefits from its very cute art style, and blissful soundtrack. You can enjoy the relaxing aspects of farming, and still feel the cool fantasy vibe of combat. Your animal friends certainly don't mind being awesome too as you do so. I'm yet to feed the cat, but I believe if I feed it milk, it may start to like me! (Could be wrong on that. Perhaps a fish?)

I can tell that there is so much more to this game than I have seen, and I'd like to come back to this game when I can. In the meantime, I definitely recommend playing this game, the demo is free on steam! Thank you so much for reading, and have a good one!
